[ad]Humans are very visually oriented, that is why, and this will not come as a surprise to you, your first impression counts. This goes for meeting someone of the opposite sex, but it definately goes for your website. On different levels even!
First of all it’s important that your website looks nice and clean, well structured, not messy (in my case, don’t make the website a copy of my desk: a complete mess with piles everywhere). Nobody likes to read and follow a website which looks like crap, with bad colors and bad navigation and layout.

The second level is in the same line. As you most probably already know, a great way to increase your AdSense earnings is to place multiple ad units on your webpages (if they have enough content that is). However, when doing this, keep this title in mind: of the first impression people get from your blog or website is that its only purpoise is to trick the visitor into clucking the ads, then you fail. Your visitors aren’t stupid. They don’t fall for that, and will most probably leave your blog again.

The third level where this title fits, is in the same line as the second level (but not the first, great thinking huh? ). If you have multiple adsense units on your website, google will place the ads that are best performing in the first ad unit that they encounter! They know it too, the first impressionis very important. And they don’t particularly want you to succeed, but they want to auuccees, so they help you in this way.

[ad#r]Now, what does this mean? Well, google puts the ad that has won the adwords auction, and thus has the highest payout per click, first in your ad units. This means that (watch out! Math part coming!) if you get this ad with the highest pyout for your page, to show up in the ad-unit that has the highest clickthrough rate for your page, you will get the maximum revenue possible for your page! However, there is a small pitfall to watch out for: the first ad-unit is not necessarily the first ad-unit that shows up on your page, but is the first ad-unit that shows up in your code. Depending on the layout and setup of your site, CDs can trick you, and the first ad-unit to show up in the code can even be the last ad-unit showing on your website. So a minimum of codediving is necessary here!

Adsense’s channels often seem intimidating to new adsense users, and many people do not see the use of them.
However, since knowledge is power, channels are the adsense equivalent of power. Channels can bring you insight in the performance of your different websites, ad-placements, colorschemes, ad-types, pages, and much more.

So how do you use these channels? How do you create them?

First, go to the Setup page in your adsense account. Then choose Channels -> Add channel.

Here you can choose a name for your channel. Best is to use a name that describes what your channel will measure. For instance, I always use an abbreviation of the website the channel will measure, followed by the specifications of the channel.

[ad]These specifications are what the channel will measure, so what you want to check out. Are you trying to compare two different ad-layouts? Then name your channels iCantLeaderbord and iCantBanner. Do you want to see which placement works best? Then use iCantLeftBlock and iCantRightBlock. Do you want to check out which works best, pages or post? Then use iCantPages and iCantPosts.

As you can see, the measurementpower of channels is immense, and its data can bright you alot of insight and wisdom. One of the best ways to increase your adsense earnings is to experiment. What is the use of experimenting when you cannot measure the effect of your experiments? None, indeed.

Adsense Channels allow you to experiment with your colorschemes, ad-placements, ad-types, and more, and it allows you to track and measure those experiments!

Now, channels of course have no use if you cannot attach them to your ads. You can attach your newly created channels to your ads while you are using the new-ad wizard, or by adjusting the settings of your ad afterwards.

You can select your new channel from the list, or you can search for it via the search-function (as shown).

If you wish to track multiple things at once, you can always attach more than one channel to a single ad, same as you can attach multiple ads to one single channel.

Now, with this newly aquired wisdom, go out to your Google Adsense Admin page, and experiment!

If you are an AdSense publisher, and you would like to attract advertisers to target your website or blog specifically with their ads then this is the tool you need: Google AdPlanner’s Publisher Center.

[ad]Google’s Ad Planner is the tool that is used by advertisers to find sites related to what they advertise. Google’s brand new publisher center provides you, as an Adsense publisher the chance to have some say over what the advertisers see when they’re looking for sites to advertise on.

When you log in to the Ad Planner, you will need to claim your sites. You can do this via two ways: through Webmaster Tools or through the DoubleClick Directory interface. Once your sites are claimed (or if you already were using the Webmpaster Tools, you just need to select them), you can customize the description for your site, highlight the types of ads that you show (both the sizes and the media), choose the categories to which you believe your site belongs, and even share your Google Analytics data. This last option can be very interesting, especially if you have a higher traffic website or blog.

To get good grades from Google you need:
- unique content
- regularly updated content
- informative content
- content that is being linked to from other sites

Anyone who maintains a blog will be able to tell you this: writing articles takes time, loads of time.
Even if you are a fast typer, wouldn’t it be much easier if you could just dictate your articles?
I mean… If you practice in talking fast, you could increase your productivity even more then by practicing in fast typing
Brett Bumeter wrote a few articles about the possible increase in earnings when you would start using speech recognition software.
The numbers are dazzling!But off course, do need to be taken with a grain of salt: the process of writing an article does not only involve the typing, but also getting yourself informed, looking up and reading through sources, thinking about the layout of your article, thinking about how to frase things.
Still, I think the idea of using speech recognition software is indeed very interesting, and can be a great deal of help to some if used well.

Google Adsense Payout Rate question:I have few websites and make money online with google adsense. I have seen adsense pay different “pay rates” per click for the same advertisement. Sometimes it pays $ 0.80 per click. Sometimes it pays $ 0.05 for the same ad. Can you tell me why this is?Answer:It depends on lots of things. One advertiser can put several ads online, that look the same, but have different bids behind them. He can then schedule the lower paying ones in the hours of day when he has the least interesting visitors, and schedule the higher paying ads when his target audience is most probably online. Also, he can target his ads at different websites, using different payouts per target.Another thing is, adsense uses a factor per adsense-publisher (meaning: you) with which it deducts your income. Meaning: if you have a lower traffic website, but have the same ads on it as a high-traffic website, the higher traffic website can earn more per click. But, not only the traffic is taken into account, also the number of leads following from those clicks that transfer into sales, and a number of other factors.

Quite often I get the question if it is really true that you can earn money via the Adsense program, and if so, if you can get rich with it, or at least do “fairly well financially”, as some publishers claim.

As Google prohibits publishing your adsense earnings, there is no real way to check if they are telling the truth or not.Besides that, the term “fairly well financially” is rather relative. “fairly well financially” for a 5 member family in Switserland is alot more money then “fairly well financially” for a teenage boy still living with mom and dad in Paragay, to just make an example.However, I can tell you that you can indeed make money from your blog using adsense. And it may be alot, or it may be a little, but if you earn say, 200$ a month for just writing your blog, you earned a nice little extra doing just what you like. So, why not give it a try?Do keep in mind that adsense is NO “get rich overnight” program. It requires effort and time. Don’t be discouraged if your earnings are still only 20$ a month after 3 months. Meaning, you can put adsense on a health website, just not on the pages that contain 18+ material, like an article about sexual health and orgasms. However, if 90% of your website is about that, better not to put Adsense up.

12. Google will catch you sooner or later, if you mess with their rules, and try to cheat.

13. You viewing your own website online will not get you banned, as long as you don’t click on your own ads.

14. You are still allowed to click on ads on other pages though!

15. Repeatedly reloading your page to up your page impressions will get you banned in the end. And, it is useless anyway, since those are no real visitors, no clicks, so no earnings.

16. Whener you have doubt about something, you can contact the Google Adsense Support Team? They are very friendly, and very helpfull.

17. That is also the best thing to do when you inadvertently clicked one of your own ads. Write them an email, explaining that you did not click it on purpous, but by mistake. The chances are less that they will block your account for that. But, better yet is, never to click your own ads.

[ad]Some simple math: Your AdSense Earning = Impression-count x Click-though-rate x Cost-per-click x smart-pricing-factor.

The Impression count is referring to the traffic on your adsense-filled pages. It means the number of times AdSense blocks are displayed. The higher this number, the better. Why? Simple, the more visitors you have, the higher this number. The higher this number, the more people see your ads. The more people see your ads, the more chances that someone clicks on them! Improving this number is done by increasing the number of visitors to your website. This can be done through normal SEO techniques, link-building, great content that is known to the outside internet-world,…

The Click-through-rate (CTR) is the ratio of clicks per impressions. This number can have any value from 0.1% to 30%, but most people’s CTR is around 1% to 10%, where 10% is already VERY good. The higher the numbers here, the better your site is performing of course. You can improve this number by experimenting with your ad-blocks, try different sizes, placements, and colors. Top earners should be the 300×250, above the fold of your page (meaning: where it is visible without the visitor having to scroll), and with colors that blend in with your site.

The Cost-per-click (CPC) is what you earn per click on one of your ads. While traditionally it refers to what advertisers pay per click, it can also refer to what publishers are paid for each click. Increasing this number is not that easy. Known methods are filtering out bad paying ads, writing around well paying keywords, and showing Google which blocks of your site to use, and which not to use.

Smart-pricing is the method AdSense uses to determine of how much value the clicks from your site are. If clicks on your site do not provide much value to your advertisers, you will only get part of the supposed CPC. An example: say you are writing an English blog about law in Belgium. Visitors come to your site from all over the world. However, the ads served on your website are for litigators in Belgium. The chances that someone in the US will click on those ads, and hire one of those Belgian lawyers is rather small. Depending on the niche you are writing about on your website, this can be a big or a small problem, since adsense tries to localize its ad-content to the place where the visitor resides, not the website itself.
