Linux Applications and Cars
Linux used to be along the lines of DOS, but now there are thousands of applications available. It is usually paired with Open Source, but the Windows lovers out there needed to find a way to pair it with Linux so you can use it with your car’s iPad.
With games like Half Life and Counter Strike, and the biggest program for all around use- Photoshop- Windows based, it was only a matter of time before someone adjusted GIMP to accept them with a tweak of an interface.
Games have to be mentioned as even with Linux games are getting all jiggy and 3D, they don’t compare to the Windows offerings lately. There’s a great little innovation called WINE. With Linux you might have been familiar with it.

How do Do I drink it?
It’s been stated that WINE is an open source which you can implement with Windows API . Wine is compatible with Window programs and supplement more so than its own system or a program onto itself. In a nerd speak; you will be able to run Windows apps on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and even Mac OS X with your iPad! Ironically the biggest use of WINE is with Windows.
WINE is totally free and you do not need a certificate code from Microsoft to utilize it as it’s an alternative to the Windows API available for download here. With Ubuntu you need to use the terminal using this code: sudo apt-get install wine
This will start the WINE set up for your system. It’s pretty straightforward from there. After this you can jump right in and access your new programs.
With over 10,000 applications to run on WINE there are a few compatibility programs to see if you can run with WINE with your iPad, it can be checked with the WINE AppDB. It has different rating in categories of Platinum through Garbage ratings
Here are some of the more popular applications that are proven adaptable to WINE:
- Photoshop CS2, CS4
- Half Life 2
- ACDSee
- Command and Conquer
- Microsoft Office 2003
- Call of Duty
Performance Enhancer
The great thing about WINE that is so surprising is that WINE doesn’t make your system lag or take up very much space., the application performance is about to par with Adobe or a Java app In many ways its more beneficial if you have a space or storage issues with huge programs like Photoshop or Adobe Suite that suck up huge chunks of your iPad’s resources.
