That’s a question that I get asked a lot. Should I upgrade my iPhone 3G to iOS 5. Because I’ve been hearing all kinds of great things about iOS 5. But, I’m afraid to update, because since the last time I upgraded my iPhone 3G, to iOS 4.2.1, it became really slow, and unstable!
The answer to that question is simple: Yes, you probably should upgrade your iPhone 3G to iOS5, because iOS 5 is PACKED with great new features and improvements. However, No, your iPhone 3G is not supported by iOS5, so you can’t upgrade it.

But, you really really really want iOS 5 on your iPhone 3G… And you’re thinking of jailbreaking your iPhone 3G, grabbing an iOS5 ipsw, and throw it on your iPhone 3G via RedSnOw, right? Nope, sorry, won’t work either…
Besides, hate to say this, but iOS 4 already slowed your iPhone 3G down to almost a halt, imagine what iOS 5 would do to it.
I even bet that you already hate having iOS 4 on your iPhone 3G, and would rather go back to iOS 3-something. Well then there is good news for you (at last), you can pick up and iOS 3.1.3 ipsw, put your iPhone in DFU mode, and install iOS 3.1.3, and enjoy the feeling of speed again.
If you really want the nifty features of iOS5, I recommend upgrading your iPhone to the iPhone 4, or even better, the iPhone 4S (especially if you would like to use Siri, since that’s only available on the iPhone 4S at the moment).
