Helping others is what blogging is all about

Do you know what blogging is all about? It’s about sharing. Sharing your thoughts, sharing your opinion, sharing your knowledge. It’s about helping others, getting others to straighten out their thoughts by comparing them to yours, forming their opinion by reading yours, filling their gaps of knowledge, by soaking up yours.

If that is what you do with your blog, sharing, helping others, then you can be sure that this will come back to you. As the saying goes, what you do onto others will come back to you threefold. So you better give good things.
blogging is all about helping others
If you build up a loyal readership that knows and appreciates your sharing and helping, then this readership will be ready for you too, to help you, and to share with you. This can be in the form of helping you out if you have problems with something, but also by clicking your ads, commenting on your blog, subscribing to your feed, buying your stuff, or the products that you’re affiliated with.

Since helping out and sharing should be your first concern, you need to ask your audience: “What do you want?”, “How can I help you?”. Once you know the answer to these questions, you are ready for the game. Find the problems your audience faces, solve them, blog about them, and sit back and enjoy (or find more problems, write more posts, and enjoy more while you’re writing even more :-) ). And, listening to your audience, sharing with them and helping them will only broaden your readership.
Your readers will start talking about your posts, putting links online, sharing them in social media. All this is word of mouth in the digital age. It is telling to other people that your product, your blog is worth visiting. This creates authority. And as we all know, search engines digg authority. So you will gain more visitors again.

Same as it is in the real world, it is in the virtual world. Quality always comes on top, and will go viral eventually. Helping people, sharing with people is creating quality content.
So I hope this post was a bit of a helping hand to you.

Really a great article. I can’t say even how important this is not only with your blog but with life in generally. Good things happen to those that do good things for others.

Indeed Jared, it’s one of those rules to live by. If you keep that in the back of your mind, you can’t go wrong!

Well, I believe that if helping yourself can help you to better help others, there is nothing wrong with it. As long as you don’t hurt or push back others.

I don’t agree that blogging is only about helping.

We think this way, because we grew reading ProBlogger, CopyBlogger and other lucky ones.

What do they do? They teach us. But who said that we also should teach? This is nonsense.. Imagine that every single blogger is teaching other bloggers. Imagine that everyone know about everything in blogging and we still teach ourselves. What is the point then?

Are we so blind? There are also other great niches, like comedy, entertainment, travelling, photography, gaming etc, where we, actually, don’t have to help others to do the same. You mostly entertain there.

This is the problem. Our minds learn and then do the same, thinking that there’s no other way, when, actually, there are tons of other ways – other original and new ways.

For example, Fred from youtube. What does he do? He’s comedian, that grew his fame with stupid and weird voice. He, actually, could blog and he’d have tons of readers/fans subscribed to his blog.

Lady Gaga. She sings. But her clips are awesome because of the fantastic way she’s doin’ everything. Her way is also original, that’s why she’s got the fame. She also could have blog.. I bet she has one.

So.. blogging is not only about helping. It’s about creating a website and making posts, where you express yourself. It doesn’t have to be just about helping others. You should do something, that others will like. Now think of yourself. What do you like when people do, except helping?

Well, iWoodpecker, I must say that I agree with you. Therefor, if you reread the post, you will see that I broadened up the “helping others” concept.
You can help others by simply expressing your feelings, your anger, your fear, by which you show them that they are not alone.
You can help them by singing, and being a role model, or by other means of entertainment, which helps people to relief stress.
There are alot of ways of helping people without having to teach them.

There’s no right or wrong at this point. Some people would like to be helped, especially for those who’re new to blogging. And for some experts, they’d share what they knew or learned with others who don’t know the information.

For me, blogging is all about building a community of friends. We build up trust and relationship with each other just like what we do in our real life.

Being greedy and selfish can be seen all through out the blogosphere and unfortunately those are the blogs that everyone seems to flock to in order to leave useless comments. :)

And how would you define greedy and selfish, in relation to blogging that is?

I actually read this article earlier last week. I’m happy to see it has become part of our weekly word challenge.

Either way you look at helping people it’s going to be beneficial for you and the individual you’re helping. Also it always comes back in the end to help you out even more. Either it’s free promotion and friendships that are created.

You’re so right @Ms.Freeman – It’s a shame, but it’s so true. It seems as if their greed gets rewarded. I notice that sometimes it’s simply the sheer number of people who subscribe or follow a site that persuades others to get on the band-wagon.

I’m not hating on big sites there are some really great ones around. It just frustrates me how things work.

But I completely believe in helping others. It brings me joy actually. I think if everyone set out to help 5 people a day, the world be a great place :)

Asking what people need is a great idea – I’ve been putting off setting up this survey too long. Thanks for this post!

Wouldn’t that be a good idea, to make it a point to always help out 5 people a day… Yeah, it would make the world a better place…
So, let me start by asking: how can I help you? What do YOU need?
