What does DoFollow mean?
On most blogs, when someone comments on a post, all backlink to the commenters site are marked “NoFollow,” which Google does not count (as much). The reason why this was implemented was to limit the amount of spam people leave in commments on blogs. The problem with this is it takes away a lot of incentive for readers to leave feedback since they feel they do not get anything out of it.
So, we changed from Nofollow comments, to Dofollow comments because:
1. It helps our readers
Blogging is alot about building friendships with other bloggers and helping eachother out. Bloggers form a big community and try to share our success with our friends who have just started blogging away. One of the best ways to help out other bloggers is by sending them traffic, and adding to their importance. Both these things can be done by giving them links to their websites. Links without the nofollow tag.
2. It gets you comments
[ad]Most bloggers know that most blogs use the Nofollow tag on comments, and therefor will refrain from commenting on your blog. Even though they find your post interesting, and even though they would like to post a comment, because they feel they have something to say about it, since it doesn’t give them much in return. Being a Dofollow blog does give them something in return. A comment gives them a link back to their website or blog. And not just a link that may provide some extra visitors, but a link that brings in some importance too!
3. NoFollow doesn’t really work
As said above, the Nofollow tag was introduced to prevent spammers from spamming your blog to blogheaven. Now, be honest, did the spamming stop? Not really… Spammers are still spamming, and looking for other ways to spam your head off. Spamming cannot be tolerated, but comments and friendship certainly can.
4. Don’t you want to receive feedback?
Feedback on your blogposts is always interesting. Good feedback keeps you going, keeps you in shape and motivated. Bad feedback can help you find out what you are doing wrong, and can get you back on the right track. Dofollow helps you get more comments, and thus more feedback.
Will you DoFollow too?

Hope you will get more comments
Well, it got me at least one already
Sure you will get more. More bloggers should follow your example.
I am glad to see that you are doing “do follow” which is some thing I am considering too – I will kep looking to see how you are doing and to see if this increases your traffic etc. – Nice site by the way.
Traffic is hard to say up till now, since my traffic is rather unstable. Some days it peaks up to several hundred visitors, sometimes it is as low as 60 visitors a day. Social sites will do that kind of thing to you
Commentswise, I think it is a great improvement. It doesn’t really BOOST your comments, but they are gradually increasing. But sure, do follow the blog, and check it out yourself too
Hope do-follow works for you. As you say, I think it will take time for your number of contributors to increase but I’m sure it will. Can’t do any harm I suppose.
I think slow changes are the best, since mostly they are more consistent. And the userbase is slowly but steadily growing indeed…
Glad to hear it. Still, I can’t imagine how harder it would be to prevent those spammers targeting do-follow blogs. It is pretty common to see comments like “thanks for the tips”, “I like it” and the likes in do-follow blogs. Keep your eyes in pages of this blog that has PR:)
But undoubtedly it would give a boost on the number of webmasters visiting your blog since they are motivated with the free backlink.

Tell me about it! i get spammed quite a lot on my blog the only way i found to cut the amount of spammers is to add the word verification.
Well, I can honestly say that removing the NoFollow tags hasn’t really brought me any more spam then before. As for the comments in general, they are now gradually increasing.
You just got yourself a new subscriber!
Thanks for sharing the love!

I have never used nofollow attribute on mt blogs because my commentators have to be rewarded. They spend their time sharing thwir opinion in their comment so why not give them a backlink?

Thanks Vista, yes, Do Follow blogs are getting bigger these days, also getting more spamcomments. So it takes a bit more work by manually checking and approving the comments, but this makes the value of your blog alot higher.
